England Under-21s: A History of Success

Introduction

England's Under-21 football team is one of the most successful in Europe, having won the UEFA European Under-21 Championship twice, in 1982 and 2017. The team is also a regular participant in the FIFA U-20 World Cup, having reached the semi-finals in 1997 and 2017.

History

The England Under-21 team was founded in 1976, and played its first match against Wales in 1978. The team has since gone on to play over 500 matches, winning over 250 of them. In addition to their two European titles, the England Under-21s have also won the Toulon Tournament three times, in 1985, 1994 and 2016.

Players

Some of the most famous players to have represented England at Under-21 level include David Beckham, Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney. The current England Under-21 squad includes some of the most promising young players in the country, such as Phil Foden, Mason Greenwood and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Future
