Asalanka, Madushka lead Sri Lanka to 1-0 lead against Pakistan

Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by 5 wickets in the first ODI of the three-match series at the National Stadium in Karachi on Saturday. Chasing a target of 267, Sri Lanka rode on a brilliant century from Charith Asalanka and a quickfire fifty from Kasun Rajitha to seal a comfortable victory with 10 balls to spare.

Asalanka was the star of the show for Sri Lanka, scoring an unbeaten 110 off 106 balls. He hit 10 fours and 2 sixes in his knock, and was particularly severe on the Pakistani spinners. Rajitha, who came to the crease with Sri Lanka struggling at 152/5, smashed 50 off just 33 balls to help his side get over the line.

Earlier, Pakistan had posted a competitive total of 266/9 thanks to a fine century from Imam-ul-Haq. The left-handed opener scored 100 off 107 balls, hitting 10 fours and a six. Babar Azam also chipped in with a useful 77 off 85 balls.

For Sri Lanka, Madushka Fernando was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3/52 in his 10 overs. Wanindu Hasaranga also impressed with the ball, taking 2/40 in his 10 overs.

The win gives Sri Lanka a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The second ODI will be played on Tuesday, September 30 at the same venue.
